EDUCATION

The 2018 Farm Bill legalized hemp cultivation and processing of hemp.  The law allowed CBD extraction and the interstate commerce of CBD.  CBD is legal as long as products contain less than .3% THC and can be purchased in a store online or in a brick and mortar store as long as the buyer is 18 years of age or older.

TYPES OF CBD

Isolate: CBD isolate is the purest form of CBD, extracted to remove all other cannabinoids, terpenes, and compounds. Without the entourage effect, it offers the benefits of CBD alone. Ideal for those who need an odorless, flavorless option, individuals concerned about drug tests, new CBD users, or those sensitive to THC and other cannabinoids.

Full-Spectrum: Full-spectrum CBD, or "whole plant CBD," retains a variety of cannabinoids (including THC and CBG) and terpenes, offering a more complete range of plant benefits. Though non-psychoactive, it may cause a false positive on drug tests, especially with high daily doses. Whole plant CBD is similar but less refined, containing additional plant materials like fats and waxes, and can be made using various extraction methods.

Broad-Spectrum: Broad-spectrum CBD contains multiple cannabinoids but little to no THC, allowing users to experience the "entourage effect" without the psychoactive effects of THC. It's ideal for those sensitive to THC, first-time users, or individuals whose conditions may require more than just CBD isolate.

DOSAGE

There is no standard CBD dosage, as the right amount varies based on individual factors such as CBD tolerance and the level of discomfort you're trying to manage. The type of product also affects how quickly you’ll feel results. For instance, a salve is absorbed through the skin for fast relief, a tincture taken under the tongue enters the bloodstream quickly, and gummies take longer due to digestion.
When determining dosage, it's important to distinguish between concentration and serving size. Concentration refers to the total amount of CBD in a product, such as 1000mg in a 30ml bottle. The dosage is the amount of CBD per serving—so in a 1000mg tincture with 30 servings, each 1ml dropper would deliver about 33.3mg of CBD.
Other factors to consider include body weight and the desired effects. Heavier individuals may need higher doses to feel effects, while lighter individuals may need less. People with chronic discomfort may require a larger dose compared to those with milder symptoms.
